- How to recover whats seems to be a bad download.
-
- Sometimes when I download a file, it comes out to be
- a text file when it should be a stuffed file or init or
- something.
-
- Use some type of file utility such as DiskTools II
- or even McSink's file utility option that allows you to
- change the creator and type of a file. Set the creator
- to what it should be.
-
- Examples:
-
- If the file should be in Stuffit format, change the
- creator and type to "SIT!"
-
- If the file should be a Control Panel device, change
- the type to "cdev" and make it an "Inited" function.
-
- If the file should be an init file, change the type
- to "INIT" and make it an "Inited" function.
-
- The rules would follow for any file that came out to
- be text that should something else. Of course, you
- would have to know ahead of time who the creator
- was. Most of the files on GEnie are Stuffed, so you
- simply change the creator and type to "SIT!"
-
- If this doesn't work, chances are the file was a
- bad upload.
-
- SUPERCLOCK 3.0 is a good example. I just downloaded it
- and it came out to be a text file. I changed the type to
- "cdev" and made it "inited". I put it in the system folder
- restarted the Mac, and it worked just fine.
