  1. How to recover whats seems to be a bad download.

  3. Sometimes when I download a file, it comes out to be
  4. a text file when it should be a stuffed file or init or
  5. something.
  6.  
  7. Use some type of file utility such as DiskTools II
  8. or even McSink's file utility option that allows you to
  9. change the creator and type of a file.  Set the creator
  10. to what it should be.

  12. Examples:
  13.  
  14. If the file should be in Stuffit format, change the
  15. creator and type to "SIT!"
  16.  
  17. If the file should be a Control Panel device, change
  18. the type to "cdev" and make it an "Inited" function.
  19.  
  20. If the file should be an init file, change the type
  21. to "INIT" and make it an "Inited" function.
  22.  
  23. The rules would follow for any file that came out to
  24. be text that should something else.  Of course, you
  25. would have to know ahead of time who the creator
  26. was.  Most of the files on GEnie are Stuffed, so you
  27. simply change the creator and type to "SIT!"

  29. If this doesn't work, chances are the file was a
  30. bad upload.

  32. SUPERCLOCK 3.0 is a good example.  I just downloaded it
  33. and it came out to be a text file.  I changed the type to
  34. "cdev" and made it "inited".  I put it in the system folder
  35. restarted the Mac, and it worked just fine.
